Kleiner Leitfaden zur Auswahl der richtigen Tamper- und Siebgröße für deine Maschine
Espresso machines are like charging cables, batteries and the like: each manufacturer has its own philosophy and creates its own standards, specifications, connection dimensions, etc.
Sometimes this is done for good technical reasons, but often the only reason is to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Be that as it may: although the "standard" 58 mm basket has become established in espresso machines with the development of Faema's E-61 brewing group and is now widely used, there are a number of manufacturers who rely on fundamentally different dimensions.
In particular the smaller cross-sections 53.30 mm and 54.70 mm can be found with some quite well-known and high-priced manufacturers. As a rule, these machine types fall through the cracks at accessory manufacturers with large series production. However, we have decided to produce both Tamper and Chisel also in special dimensions - of course with the same precision and the same quality standards as our 58.xx mm products.
Here is a list of the most common manufacturers and the different sizes:

The list is of course not complete - if you are unsure what your machine's dimensions are, the easiest way is to simply measure. The deciding factor for us is the inner diameter of the basket.
To select a product, simply filter in the respective product category according to the size of the product in question.
It can be even more complicated with portafilters: we only offer these for 58.xx mm group sizes, because here the specifications vary even more. The manufacturers have usually changed the size of the wings of the portafilter (the two 'lugs' that hold the portafilter in the group head) when they have modified and further developed the E-61 group head. There are numerous different dimensions, not even the different E-61 groups of the individual manufacturers are compatible with each other. For this reason we buy the different portafilter bodies in order to be able to offer complete portafilters for different machines.
Just like our Barista Original handles, the handles are of course handmade, and you can choose the Pullman baskets in the size that suits you best.
We have complete portafilters for the most common machine types in stock, but we can always get the matching portafilter body with a double outlet or bottomless on request. Please just ask!
Which basket size fits which portafilter?
Basically, our baskets are only compatible with 58 mm portafilters, but this format is used by the vast majority of machines (all E-61 brewing groups). For 'special formats' such as 54 mm (Dalla Corte etc.), 53xx mm Sage etc. there are no Pullman baskets. For these machines, we offer the appropriate IMS-Competition baskets on request - in our experience, the baskets that come closest to our requirements.
If your portafilter fits in terms of diameter, you still have to consider the height of the desired basket. Here are our sieve dimensions (height from bottom centre to basket rim):
17-19g: 23.65 mm
19-22g: 26,30 mm
22-25g: 28,65 mm
25-28g: 30,12 mm
Experience has shown that the 17-19g baskets fit in all standard portafilters, the 19-22 in almost all (but it doesn't hurt to recheck), the larger ones almost never.
You will need a new portafilter body for this. Of course, bottomless always works for all basket sizes.
If you decide on a complete portafilter, we have of course taken the corresponding size into account.
